combo boxes

Heya listers,
Another Jaws 7 frustration lately is when I open a combo box to search what I
want and Jaws automatically shuts it down and takes me to a completely new
focus on that page and sometimes the previous screen. Question is what can I do
to keep the combo box open till I find what I'm looking for? as I already turn
refresh page off as well as flash movies etc
