There's no need to hit apply when there's an OK button. The only purpose
for the apply button is to save without exiting the dialog.

Question: First, when you assigned the shortcut key, did you click on "apply" by tabbing to the apply button or did you hit "alt + A"? I find that the latter does not always work. My experience has been that I have to actually click on the apply button and then tab or arrow to the "ok" button.
