Hi roger,
You're confusing (conflating, actually) two or three different instructions.
Let's go over them.

1. The Insert Shift R would be the stock Jaws 8 hotkey combo for Reply
directly to Sender. If, with a message open, all this gets you is a Windows
error "ding" sound, then the most reasonable guess is that you aren't using
Jaws 8, which you say yourself is so. You're using Jaws 7, correct? Then go
to the next item in my list.

2. With a message open where you'd like to reply directly the=o that sender
instead of to the list, press control shift R, not insert shift R. Now, if
this is set up in your copy of Jaws 7, you ought to hear "replying directly
to sender" and, if you shift tab up into the headers until you get to the To
line, or, as I believe Adrian explained as a way simply to read, rather than
edit in, that field, press Insert 3, you'll hear what's in that field now.
If it's the JFW list, or however you've got it named in your Address Book,
then this definitely hasn't worked, either. But if it says the name of the
individual lister to whom you're trying to address the reply, then it's
working, just as Jaws has just announced.

3. Now, and this is only what to do if this handy Jaws hotkey method does
not work for you and you want to know the basic, sort of primitive way we've
always done this for the most part (without resorting to adding that
person's email address to your address book, which some people like to do,
though it just clutters up your address book, as I feel about it) is this,
which I believe Judith mentioned:

Press control R as if you are going to reply to the list. Now, your message
size isn't about to change. I can't imagine what you meant by that. And
don't use your tab key. Just arrow down into the header of the message to
which you're replying, just one or two presses, and you'll be on the From
line of that message.

Now, in order to know what's there, exactly, do a Jaws Say Line (Insert 8).
Notice if you hear that there's a lot of stuff there, both words and
characters like brackets, that you won't want to actually leave in the To
field, but don't do anything now except press Home to be at the start of
that field, then Shift End to select the entire line.

Now control C to copy to clipboard.

Now Shift tab to go upward through the header fields until you come to the
To line. It will say the address or name of this list. Press home to be at
the start of that field. Shift End to select it to the end. Control V to
copy from clipboard the address you've gotten from the previous message.
that will replace whatever was in the field that you selected.

Now, remembering what you heard when you did a Say Line before, use your
arrow keys to find the extra words and characters that can't be around the
address, or Windows won't understand it. Delete everything, both ahead of
and after the actual email address. No repetition of the person's name, no
bracket, nothing but person@domain name.com, so to speak.

Now you've got it. You can get handy with this and it will never take as
long to do as it's taken me to describe the steps and you to follow them
this time. But it'll still be far less handy than just using a hotkey
combination, if you have one available

Now, if it turns out you want or need to change the hotkey for some reason,
that will be done with the Jaws Keyboard Manager, but that's another issue.
I hope the above is clear. Your note, below, suggests that you've got a
couple of things tangled up, and this ought to help.

Subject: Reply to sender

Hello everyone,

First of all, Thanks Judith, Adrian and Yardbird for getting back to me.
I'm going to write below what is happening with all of the suggestions.
Hopefully I'm missing something simple.
When I replied to Judith, I used the Control Shift, R keystroke.
Unfortunately, the message was sent to the list.
When I do the Insert, shift, R keystroke. I get a ding. I'm guessing this is
because, I'm using Jaws 7.0.
When I have a message open, and I do a Control R, and start tabbing down to
see the original senders address, the size of the message starts to change.
Either way I try, I can't get jaws to say, replying directly to Sender.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks again for all of the help.
It's much appreciated.

Roger Bachelder
