Okay so I guess the icon has to be on desktop in order to make a hot key?
Thanks,
Ann

Ann:
In XP, hit the Start key. Then, select programs. You can use the letter "P."
Open the tree's branch (You can use right arrow).
Arrow to accessories, and then work your way down to Notepad. I cannot remember whether there is another submenu to work your way through.
Then right click or hit the applications key (same as shift plus F-10).
Arrow down to send to desktop (Create Shortcut).
Hit ENTER, and you should have an Icon.
After that, follow the steps that I, and others, have outlined.

Hi,
Do you know how to create a hot key if there is no icon on desktop?
For example, I would like to create alt control+n for Notepad. Notepad is
not on my desktop.

This is the way I've done it in XP, not sure about Vista. Usually when a
program is installed it makes a shortcut to your desktop. I'm going to
assume you have an icon and program title on your desktop. So press
windows key plus d to go to the desktop, type the first few letters of the name of the program and when you hear Jaws say it, press alt + enter which
should get you to the properties dialog box.
Press alt + k. You should hear Jaws say shortcut key. Press a single
letter of the alphabet for what you want to be the hot key, I think some
other characters on the keyboard are also usable.
Tab down to OK and press enter.
The result should be you can launch the program now by pressing ctrl + alt
+ your single letter.

Some of these letters may have already been taken by other programs so
it's best to test before starting this whole process - just try ctrl + alt + your desired letter to see if it happens to launch some other program on
your computer.

When in the shortcut key part of the dialog box, just type the letter, not
ctrl + alt + letter. The computer fills in the rest.

Hello,
I was wondering if there was any way to create your own Hotkeys? Like to
open up word or other programs?
Also, Caps lock J on my Vista laptop with Jaws 11 isn't working. Is there
another way to do insert J with a laptop?
Thank you,
