The list is long. Very long. Certain virus scanners will put the breaks on your computer if they're doing a virus scan, you may have a virus that's taking up a lot of your system resources, some file sharing programs will do it, Windows itself can at some times be quite the resource hog... basicly, it all depends on what you've got running.

Well, it's no secret JFW can at times be resource intensive. But,
somehow, I doubt the performance hit you take running it will be very
much different from if you didn't have it running. Particularly on
today's computers. I've run several processes I know full well are
more resource intensive than JFW, and this computer's nothing
special, but it was still fairly fast all things considered.
