Re: Can Jaws slow down your computer?

I still think it is Road runner but I can't figure out how. Can road runner
slow down a computer? I know this does not pertain to jaws now so you can email
me off the list if you want.

I figured out the the internet is what is slowing down my entire computer.
When I unplug the modem everything is toatlly faster. I don't know what to say
to my internet provider? Has anyone had problems with Road Runner?

      Jeanette,
AFter I responded I noticed that you did have 512 meg RAM.
      Press cntrl+alt+delete.

This will take you to the task manager. To exit the task manager just use
the alt+F4.
You need to go to the "processes" part of the task manager. This will
show you every little thing which is running and how many CPU cycles it is
gobbling up.

        Jeanette,
Man, JAWS in and of itself should have no effect on that sort of
processor.
I did not see how much memory you have if you said. I would presume it
is at least 512 megs, preferably a gig.
It is Eloquence which might be a problem on a slower CPPU but anything
above about 1.8 GHz should be able to handle that load.
I concur that Norton is, most likely, a major contributor to your woes.
Go to Microsoft Task Manager, then to the processes page and see who is
gobbling up the cycles.
The very last entry is "system Idle" and it should be above 90%.
If it is not then just read down each entry and I think you will find
the culprit.
I would recommend AVG as it seems to work well for me with XP Home, svc
pk II.

What else could cause computers to be slow? I have alot of memory and
ram so
It should not be slow but it is.

Well, it's no secret JFW can at times be resource intensive. But,
somehow, I doubt the performance hit you take running it will be
very
much different from if you didn't have it running. Particularly on
today's computers. I've run several processes I know full well are
more resource intensive than JFW, and this computer's nothing
special, but it was still fairly fast all things considered.
