Done it, as you say, no ill effect so far, keeping my fingers firmly crossed.
Anything else that should be taken away that way to speed things up a bit?
I have 512mb of RAM so things should be ok but the system is very sluggish and the sound gets quieter when I open an application or connect to my ISP or download my mail.
Sometimes the system won't shut down, sometimes it locks up and the desktop list disappears, where can I find what causes these problems? I've tried to look in the logs but can't understand much about what it says.
Have installed Spybot, but don't seem to be able to fix the problems it finds.
Norton reports a clean system. A little help would be appreciated as there is not much round here and the specialists, apart from costing money for their services, don't really want to touch my system as I work in English.

Cheers now,

Marie

Would you mind telling me how to do this please? in which creative submenu do I find it? you can answer privately if you think this won't interest the whole list.

Thanks in advance,

CTHelper is a program that comes with the software installed for a Creative Labs soundcard.

In some cases, CTHelper can actually cause problems by hogging too much memory.

I don't know about your particular system and do not want to issue a general recommendation, but on my machine, i for years have always disabled cthelper without any ill effects.

This title appears on my screen sometimes when I boot up the pc, I can't find out where this program comes from, it is not in the starter list, pressing esc. makes it disappear as does minimize all apps. Can anyone tell me what it is?

Another question, if I may, why is it the same item are not always listed on my system tray?sometimes the printer is there along with Norton and Creative, at other times, when I start the pc, only Norton is showing up there, sometimes, Norton and Creative, sometimes, Norton and the printer, very strange isn't it?

more than a bit puzzled

Marie
