The network device isn't on a card - it's on the motherboard.
However plugging in a PCI Intel network card with a 557 chip on it should
work.

As Dave Ruck says though, the most likely cause is a power supply problem
and you may need to replace that. The cost of shipping to Castle and back
may make trotting out to the local box shifter and buying an ATX PSU a
better option though.
