Hi Marvin, The issue with dynamic addresses on the external interface is that you will be assigned the ISP's DNS server on the external interface. There are rare circumstances where this can cause a problem. Even though rare, why not make them just not happen? Force the external interface to use your own DNS server, which can resolve both internal and external network names. If you had a static address bound to the external interface, you can leave the DNS server setting blank. The interface configuration tutorial and the quick start has me spinning in circles. I'm just thankful John is in a patient mood tonight. :-) _____ From: Thomas W Shinder [mailto:tshinder@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, January 29, 2004 8:56 PM To: [ISAserver.org Discussion List] Subject: [isalist] RE: Split-DNS, is it really necessary...for me? http://www.ISAserver.org Hi Marvin, Don't be confused. Just do what I said in the article and it will work. For dynamic IP addresses quick start suggests configuring the external as so: Obtain IP automatically Use the following DNS server: ISA server IP The interface tutorial mentions: IP address: 123.123.123.170 Subnet: 255.255.255.248 GW: 123.123.123.169 DNS: blank Advanced: Uncheck "register this connection's ..." WINS: Uncheck "Enable LMHOSTS lookup" Select: Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. Kinda confused on which way to go with this?
