best supported by Linux? (I did hear rumors that AMD64 causes problems on

The Centrino vs Turion is a good debate and here are my thoughts..
The centrino is good if you want great performance-per-watt, meaning
you will get more done for less power which inturn means your battery
life will be more per charge. The turion is great if you are
interested in a desktop-replacement. If you are going to be travelling
a bit, go for the centrino, if performance and games are important
then turion. Both are well supported under Linux.
A point to consider, Intel's Core Duo 2 will be launched later this
month and laptops based on that should arrive soon after. The new
turion's are also impressive. If you dont mind waiting , I suggest you
wait till Nov-Dec and see how good they are.
I bought a laptop last week, the Dell XPS m1210, it's centrino based
and a compact one yet packs a lot of power. I wrote up a small preview

Which distro? SUSE, Ubuntu, Mandriva or Fedora? And where to get that in
Chennai?
I shall be using my Tux machine for development in J2EE, OpenLaszlo & Perl,
with Apache running around. Yeah, and also for office, multimedia and the
internet.
Since this is your first foray into Linux, stick to the road. Choose
either Ubuntu 6.06, Fedora Core 5 or Open SUSE 10.
