Nice to hear about another consortium looking to
provide low cost computing in India.The Rat-Race for a Low Cost Linux
PC started long ago i guess.We have Amida Simputer which has already
-hit the markets, but failed to get the actual market response.It was
a SA1110 Strong arm based device.We have now better variants like
S3C2410 (Samsung) with complete Linux ports (Mizi)on it. The one
question that quizzez me is that provding a touchscreen LCD + PDA for
Rs.4500.I guess you should be cutting out on the Processor (maybe a
Coldfire or a Non MMU variant),Flash (maybe 2MB-4MB)and SDRAM
(16MB).But with my experience in porting in Linux i guess the whole
box ends up being just another linux solution , even mobile phones
now-a-days are equipped with a similar configuration for almost the
same price.But it is really nice to hear about your new effort to
spread linux usage.
