ILUGC has been doing programs like this quite regularly at LUCAS TVS / for the
IEEE at IIT-M etc .. and they seem to be quite a success.
One thing that has been done in the past is to find a local IT exhibition and
convince the organizers to donate a stall to the LUG. Then, ask redhat india,
novell india etc for demo copies of Fedora, SuSE personal edition etc that can
be passed out to people who want .. and copies of other distros with a few fast
CD burners handy for those who want other distros.
Ideally - single CD distros like knoppix rather than 3..5 CD distros like FC3
and Debian can be burnt right at the venue.
People can also just talk about their linux related problems (there'll be a
fair number of LAN admins who got convinced to install pcq linux and dont know
too much about how to do stuff with it, etc) ... and quite often it turns out
that there's a geek in the city who's not in the LUG yet and would make a great
addition to the LUG :)
Nothing on the scale of it.com / linux bangalore etc .. but find small IT
exhibitions that keep taking place, or work with local orgs like engg college
IEEE chapters, etc to organize more such events.
