Hi Friends !
Let me share my on spreading of linux.
Most of the institutes give training in windows only and people at large
don't have a chance to know of other OSs leave alone mastering them.
Also a major chunk of the PCs are sold by assemblers ( at least in the
home PC business) who install windows only. Unless the buyers ask for
linux they won't install it. So it is imperative that we have to spread
the salient features of linux like its ruggedness, free availability
etc. Only when there is a demand the assemblers will try to install linux.
So far lugs cater to the needs of techies only who already have fair
knowledge of linux. But what about non-techies like me who are simply
baffled by the technical jargons ? Now that we have a solution for
availability of linux CDs by having a linux CD maintainers list, some
body should come forward to impart knowledge and training on linux. Last
week I had a chance to meet Mr Chandrasekar Babu and I have requested
him to conduct such a class. Hope such classes are conducted area wise
so that non-techies and people who have limited knowledge may benefit.
Some people try to advocate Windows in ilugc but I'd like to draw their
attention that ilugc is not the forum for propagating windows or other
Microsoft products. It should be solely used to spread and share one's
knowledge in _*linux and linux alone.*_* *Do correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks
