We are looking for Linux (Embedded/Systems/Admin) professionals to join
Novatium, a Chennai based company, immediately.
Three visionaries from diverse backgrounds - Prof Ashok Jhunjhunwala (of
IIT-Madras); Ray Stata, Chairman of Analog Devices, USA and Rajesh Jain
(ex-IndiaWorld and MD of Netcore Solution, Mumbai) have come together to set
up Novatium Solutions in Chennai. These individuals have been thinking
about low cost PCs (thin-clients) for a long time and they think now is the
time India and other developing nations need one.
They believe developing countries like India need low cost computers for
penetration of benefits of ICT to the masses. What is needed is 80% of the
PC ability at a 20% cost. This venture intends to build thin-clients that
not only makes computing very affordable but also makes them easy to use and
manage - like an "appliance". In the past six months some crucial
development has already happened at IIT-Madras. Novatium will build on this
base to develop its Linux based thin-clients. The first thin-client is
expected to be ready by Jan-end. Novatium is targeting a price-point of
less than Rs.4500.
Like a true product company Novatium will be a R&D and Sales organisation.
We are keen to put together a team consisting of the best and the brightest.

About Novatium Solutions Pvt Ltd.
Belief
That the next few hundred million users (mostly in the developing world)
need a device that is 80% of PC and at 20% of the cost (<Rs 5K or <$100) - a
device that has the ease of use of a home appliance.
Building
Comprehensive computing services for the next few hundred million users by
making computing more affordable and relevant to their lives. The solution
involves a centralised server-based computing platform--a gigantic computer
of sorts--which hosts a wide range of software applications and content and
which can be accessed by users remotely over broadband connections using
very simple low-cost access devices (or Thin-Clients). The thin-client will
be built by Novatium. While sister concerns, Netcore and Tenet companies
will build the Grid and other key pieces.
We are convinced that for about Rs. 700/month (on par with average monthly
mobile bill) we can provide a CommPuting (Communication and Computing)
solution.
Promoters
Novatium is promoted by three visionaries from diverse backgrounds.
Ray Stata received both his Bachelor?s and Master?s degree in Electrical
Engineering from MIT. In 1965, he founded Analog Devices, Inc. with his
former MIT roommate, Matthew Lorber '56 EE and Richard Burwen (a Harvard
alumnus). He has been chairman and chief executive officer of Analog
Devices Inc. since 1973. Headquartered in Norwood, MA, Analog Devices
designs, manufactures and markets analog, mixed-signal, and digital signal
processing equipment. Analog Devices has close to 10,000 employees, and
sales of more than $2.5 billion.
Ray is amongst the first who believed and put faith in India and the
abilities of its people. He will be a Member of the Board providing
valuable guidance.
Rajesh Jain did his B. Tech. in Electrical Engineering from the Indian
Institute of Technology, Bombay in 1988, and his M.S. in Electrical
Engineering from Columbia University, New York in 1989. He launched
IndiaWorld in 1995. From its pioneering start, IndiaWorld grew to be one of
the largest collection of India-centric websites, comprising Samachar, Khel,
Khoj and Bawarchi. IndiaWorld was acquired by Satyam Infoway (Sify) in
November 1999 for $115 million in one of Asia's largest Internet deals. He
is Managing Director, Netcore Solutions.
He is passionate about building the new India enabled by internet and
information technology. Amongst the most influential bloggers [Blog:
http://www.emergic.org]. Rajesh will lead Novatium and be its CEO and
Member of the Board.
Dr Ashok Jhunjhunwala is professor of the department of electrical
engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, and was department
chair till recently. He received his BTech degree from IIT, Kanpur, in 1975,
and his MS and PhD degrees from the University of Maine, USA, in 1977 and
1979, respectively. Since 1981, he has been teaching at IIT, Chennai. He
was instrumental in establishing the TENET group at IIT, Chennai, with
fellow faculty members, with a vision to make India a design house in the
area of telecom and computer networks. Dr Jhunjhunwala has championed the
cause that a lower telecom infrastructure cost will make telecom affordable
to more Indians.
For his pioneering efforts he has been awarded numerous awards including the
Padma Shri in 2002. His TeNeT group has incubated a number of R&D companies
which work in partnership with TeNeT group to develop world class
technologies. The products include corDECT Wireless in Local Loop system,
Fibre Access Network, DSL Systems and several other systems. He and his
TENET group will provide technical expertise to Novatium. He will also be a
Member of the Board.
