I have a question. People here would agree that the advent of Linux
has revolutionized the whole computer industry, including the server
and supercomputer fields.

Now, Linux and *BSD started at around the same time. Why isn't it that
FreeBSD isn't as famous or popular as Linux his?

*BSD during its most crucial stage got bogged down by the BSD-I Vs AT&T
lawsuit which ensured that *almost no* commercial firm  showed interest
in the usage of BSD.This was around 1991-92.

By the time the lawsuit was settled and they managed to get 4.4 BSD
out(1994), linux had already established itself as the choice of the
hacker-hobbyist.The rest, is history..
