Take Mac OS X for example, its built off the FreeBSD core.
Can you compare a Mac with FreeBSD as a desktop platform ?
a mac is quite nice. and a freebsd with gnome 2.10 is also quite nice
but the rest of it - other than the really cool GUI - is pretty much a
bog standard and rather annoying *bsd-ish clone
Really cool gui's aside,
what's more important for a desktop user is the "it-just-works"
experience.Sadly, *BSD do not gaurantee this for a desktop user when
compared to Mac OS X.
What I meant in the first place was that modifications done by a third
party to a OSS product will *never* be available to the community if the
project is licensed under the BSDL.
