The system boots from the LiveUSB, grub loads with it's menu. It

Note that the internal disk of the EEE Pc is also a USB disk so your
initramfs may be getting confused as to where the root file system
is.
You have misunderstood my problem. I don't have any issue with booting
the eeePC off of a LiveUSB pen drive. In fact, my eeePC is booted up
with Linux Mint 5r1 off of a USB pen drive as I write this message.
This eliminates the possibility that the image on the pen drive could
be corrupted.
Using the *same* pen drive, I am unable to boot another system that I
have integrated using the DG945GCLF miniITX mobo that has an integrated
Atom 230 cpu. This system does *not* have any hard/optical disk but
for the USB pen drive inserted into an external port.
The BIOS detects the USB pen drive as a HDD block device and I have set
the BIOS to boot from USB block devices. It does boot but drops down
to an initramfs (busybox) prompt.
I hope I have clarified my problem.
