I am no kernel hacker as yet. :-) I know, I know udev
is userspace but I believe it doest the job of the
kernel.
In any case I am a lil dense about what you are
saying. I have a feeling you are mistaken.
Since AFAIK udev is a new gen devfs framework whereas
hotplug and coldplug are for configuring uPnP devices
like PCI and USB devices for plug and play. It detects
the device connected and takes actions automagically
like uploading the firmware on to the device and such.
I think this has nothing to do with udev which creates
device nodes on the disk depending upon the devices it
finds by autoprobing.
Please don't take my words as gospel. I am still
learning the multifarious aspects of the great linux
kernel! :-)
