Please read the complete mail, spend a minute or two
digesting the contents and what the person is trying
to say. When did I say that the howto is the solution
that Airtel is going to use?
In fact this is not a howto even.
Anyway the surest way I can ensure that Airtel does
not buy this from me is to show them this procedure.
Already there is lot of prejudice against linux. If I
show them this complicated mumbo jumbo, they will
throw me out of the office.
That is why I am making a livecd that works out of the
box to demonstrate it. Even that will not do. People
may not even want to install livecd to disk. They will
want their own linux distro.
And each linux distro patches the kernel in their own
way. I cannot patch the kernel simply. For me to make
an install CD that has a point and click interface
like Windoze is a colossal task given the fact the the
linux market is so fragmented with no
standardisation...
So can't you see you were not comparing apples to
apples? I was saying that a Windoze like install CD
for linux can avoid the user the 4 points I discussed
above.
That is, when software can simply solve the problem
without user intervention, why should Airtel go thro'
the rigmarole of replacing the modem?
This howto is for hackers who want to learn and have
fun! And for those who enjoy doing things
themselves...
