Hi All,
Thanks for helping me with TATA - Indicom USB modem setup. I am back
with another help request. I am trying to set-up a DNS for our intranet.
We have following machines in our LAN :
* A linux server running Debian Etch (hostname : linux05, ip : 192.168.0.71)
* A Win NT-4 server (hostname : NTServer)
* About 15 Windows PCs (Win 98 & Win 2K)
* and a Linux Mint laptop (hostname : mg-laptop, ip : 192.168.0.104)
I am trying to configure a local domain pulsars.lan and resolve names
like linux05.pulsars.lan, mg-laptop.pulsars.lan etc.
My configuration files are at
* /etc/bind/named.conf - http://dpaste.com/hold/40126/
* /etc/bind/named.conf.options - http://dpaste.com/hold/40127/
* /etc/bind/named.conf.local - a file with 5 lines of text but all
commented out with //
* /etc/bind/db.pulsars.lan.hosts &
/etc/bind/db.0.168.192.hosts - http://dpaste.com/hold/40129/
* /etc/resolv.conf - two lines (search pulsars nameserver 192.168.0.71)
When I do nslookup or dig for mg-laptop.pulsars.lan in the linux05
machine itself, I get SERVFAIL only. However I am getting correct
responses for localhost. (Server : 192.168.0.71, Address :
192.168.0.71#53, Name : localhost, Address : 127.0.0.1)
I vaguely remember giving the domain name as pulsars.com while
setting up the debian server long time ago (about six months
back). Now I am not able to find out where that information
is recorded.
What else should I check?
BTW I used webmin to do all this setup.
Thanks in advance
Regards Ganesh
