Hi All
Perl Audio Converter is a tool for converting multiple audio types from one
format to another. It supports AAC, AC3, AIFF, APE, AU, AVR, BONK, CAF, CDR,
FAP, FLA, FLAC, IRCAM, LA, LPAC, M4A, MAT, MAT4, MAT5, MMF, MP2, MP3, MP4, MPC,
MPP, NIST, OFR, OFS, OGG, PAC, PAF, PVF, RA, RAM, RAW, SD2, SF, SHN, SMP, SND,
SPX, TTA, VOC, W64, WAV, WMA, and WV
It's home page is
http://pacpl.sourceforge.net/
But, it requires a lot of dependency packages to be installed to convert from
one format to the other (a lot of encoders and decoders has to be installed for
this package to work)
The most popular players, encoders and decoders like lame, wavpack, mplayer,
mpg123 can be downloaded from
http://rpm.livna.org
The base perl-audio-converter and other remaining dependency packages I have
downloaded for Fedora-8 and made as a tar.gz file and this can be downloaded
from
http://linuxbaskar.googlepages.com/perl-audio-converter.tar.gz
After installing all the required rpm packages, it works fine and I have
converted all MP3 files in my harddisk to OGG format and now almost all default
media players plays OGG files without requiring any additional audio codecs and
it has additional plugins to integrate with amarok and other audio players for
audio conversion.
Now, without worrying about proprietory audio codec formats, there is an easy
way to convert your favourite music to freely available audio formats.
