[Ilugc] BSNL Broadband connection not working in Linux(Debian Sarge)

wrapper configuration tool for debian (pppoeconf). But I couldn't do the
same using the modem's web administration settings and I wondered if its
a bug.
Regarding, the adsl-start, I must try again on Slackware. Perhaps, it
failed consistently previously due to the connection outage while I was
trying to configure. I was constantly getting the error 'Timeout waiting
for PADO packets', while I tried connecting from my Slackware box. Now,
that I got the same error for a while even on Debian, I can be sure that
its not a Slackware-specific config problem. I'll investigate a bit
more.
There is no such LED on the UT-300R, only 'Link' and 'Data'.
On my model, I have totally 4 LEDs which are labelled as - Power (Red),
WAN (Orange), PPPoE (no idea about its colour yet) and LAN (Green).
Among the four that I mentioned, the PPPoE never lit up, and I guess its
synonymous to 'Data' LED on your modem. Though, the WAN and LAN LEDs
blink rapidly during data transfer (much like in a hub/switch).
Hmm, should be some kind of encapsulation to allow PPPoE on the LAN
side - what are the options?
Maybe, but I dont know as yet. So I was contemplating on whether to
leave them on or remove them. In their options, the connection type for
all of them are configured as 'Bridge'. Thus, lots of other fields are
missing (unlike the PPPoE setting). All I see is 'Encapsulation' which
is set to LLC, and a 'Select LAN' drop-down list which is set to 'LAN
group 1' (and my connected machine lies in this group). Other disabled
fields and worth noting among them are 'PVC settings' in which the
VPI,VCI are set to 0,32 for connection name pvc_0_32. Similarly another
connection with the name pvc_8_35 has this value pair set to 8,35. I
guess they could be default templates for various types of connection,
but am not sure.
Also, all connection settings have a field labelled 'Sharing' which is
set to 'Disable'. Is this correct ? [I tried setting to 'Enable', still
no luck].
There were a couple of other things I removed though, like some
preconfigured DHCP LAN client settings with IP address/MAC
address/Hostname mapping. The hostnames clearly indicated that this
modem went through some testing within the BSNL/vendor staff circle. I
wondered if those pre-configured connections were similar cruft left
after testing by them.
Anyways, I'll try and investigate a bit more to get the settings to work
from the modem web interface. Just hoping that the web admin interface
works and that I've not recieved a buggy model :-)
