I am using Debian Sarge and i have got a Broadband BSNL Connection. I am
unable to make it work under Linux.I did follow the HOWTO which is available
in the wiki but in my case what happens is that . I exactly got all the
screens that were posted in the wiki and i also get the message connected
when i give adsl-start but i am unable to log on to any websites.and when i
executed pppd in an other terminal i get some messages one displayed
something like "Authentication succeeded.."
I am running Sarge and the BSNL broadband works nicely. I am not
familiar with the approach you have taken, so I cannot help you debug
it. However I can say that the following approach works:
1. Configure your NIC with static IP 192.168.1.2 and bring it up.
2. Open a web browser and point it to
http://192.168.1.1 ;(This is the
browser based administration for the ADSL modem)
3. Use username and passwd (admin/admin - can be changed later)
4. Go to the ADSL setting tab. The default would be Bridging, Select PPPoE.
5. Enter your BSNL username and password in the appropriate box.
6. Enter the primary and secondary DNS server addresses in the appropriate box.
7. Save the settings.
8. Now, to force the link to BSNL up, you need to ping the nameserver
IP from your computer. I have not found any other way to do it.
The box also has a dhcp server setting. I enabled this as well. I
find it very convenient to have all the settings and config on the
modem itself, the only step you need to do after booting into your
LInux is Step 8. So, I can just boot into Knoppix/any live CD and go
online instantly.
