well, i am also on bsnl broadband and dlink 500t modem. and i dont
have any problem... except the password reset area. its asking for IE.
now where the hell will i get IE to reset my password?? anyone did it
using mozilla or firefox or netscape?? hope someone helps me out with
this.

while the link is up, my /etc/resolv.conf gets updated at frequent intervals
(every one hour) with the nameserver being set to 192.168.1.1 alone
(which happens to be the modem). I realise this when all connections
time out after a while the ppp0 link still showed as being 'up'. I had
to manually copy /etc/ppp/resolv.conf to /etc/resolv.conf everytime this
happened. I'm investigating on this too, maybe its got to do with the modem
being set to act as a DHCP server.

nameserver on all the systems on the LAN side is set to (say) 192.168.1.1,
the LAN-facing IP of the router, and DNSmasq running on the router
performs name resolution (This is similar to what I have on my routerlinux
box, but this is one hop inward of my UT-300R modem/router. The routerlinux
box talks to the UT-300R using RP-PPPoE on the WAN-facing interface. On the
routerlinux box, /etc/resolv.conf gets updated periodically (?) by RP-PPPoE,
currently showing 61.1.96.69 and 61.1.96.71 as nameservers).

Therefore, the fact that /etc/resolv.conf gets updated to 192.168.1.1
on your host means that RP-PPPoE (or equivalent) is picking up something
from (in your case) the UT-300R2, and it may be something that's in
its default configuration.
