Interesting, this business of hyphenation. It used to be that hyphenation
was encouraged to the point of obsession, the idea being to use every
possible space. Now long phrases like second-in-command are not divided
and can result in a waste of space. Print material for the most part has
eliminated spac-saving hyphens, wasting space in those documents also. I
woner if the day will ever come when common sense instead of hard-and-fast
rules will prevail in these matters.
