Actually, you don't need to have the paper coming out of the other side of the embosser. However, once you've placed the paper under the metal plate and on the tractor guides, and turned the embosser on, there's one more thing to do:

After the embosser has completed its startup sequence, press the OL button to take the printer off line. Then, press 2 followed by the E key (immediately to the right of the 0). The embosser will say, "finding top of form" and the paper will move back and forth until it is correctly positioned. The embosser will come back on line, and you're good to go.
