Agreed they most certainly would fight it! Maybe it would challenge them to
provide equal access with Jaws and there other products. I most certainly
would welcome such a change because Jaws is too expencive in my humble
opinion.

I'd be willing to bet that we'll never see a screen reader built into
Windows that seriously competes with Jaws or WindowEyes.

Why? Because that would put many adaptive tech companies out of business, or
at least seriously hurt their bottom line.  I wouldn't be surprised if
Freedom Scientific and the like would actively fight and lobby against such
a move, even though a robust screen reader included with the OS would help
so many actual blind people
- especially those buying their own equipment.
They'd fight it to simply keep doing what they do.
