That's true, but they also can just right arro to that and press enter to turn 
it on or
off.

Darren, my bad.  Sorry miss read that.  Try this then, locate the volume 
control that you
wish to automate then when focussed over it, press the applications key, 
followed by the
letter W.  That will have enabled the automation write on that control.  Then, 
go into
playback and fade out the volume either using the controls on your numpad or by 
using a
control surface if you have one or, tby assigning a control on a MIDI device 
such as a
keyboard.  Once you have got the fade right, unarm the control when focussed 
over the
volume by pressing the applications key, followed by the letter W.

Hi Phil.

How would setting two snapshots for a start and finish apply to a gradual fade 
out of a
track.

I would've though I'd need to have the track playing and record the automation 
in realtime
