Phishing:
Phishing is a deceptive plan to steal your identity. Scam artists, using the
Internet, try to get you to divulge personal information about yourself like
social security numbers, credit card numbers, passwords, personal banking
information, etc. They then use this information to steal your identity -
Identity Theft. They use various marketing schemes to persuade you to give out
your personal information. Phishing can be done over the telephone or over the
Internet.

Sometimes its hard to recognize a phishing scam, as they use a reputable
sounding business name, logo, and offer great prizes, discounts, etc. if you
provide the information. The URL address is unsuspecting to the individual
filling out the information, because it usually has the name of the company in
the address, which further validates it to the unsuspecting customer. But the
link to the site is sending you to a fake site, or what is called a "spoofed"
Web site. Here the customer will begin to fill in their personal information,
hit send, and that's all it takes. In a matter of seconds, your identity can
be completely jeopardized and ruined.
