Rick,

It seems to me that I was briefly exposed to a "Grade III" version of
Braille as a youngster (also when I was partialy sighted and not very
serious about learning Braille which was really stupid). Do you happen to
know where one might find out more about that type of Braille. As I recall,
it even had a symbol for "Ph", though I couldn't tell you what it was. If
you happen to know where I might find out about this, I might be really
interested in learning it. I rather enjoy learning things like that and love
to sit with the books and teach myself.

I have a card reader on my computer. I download books and newpapers on
the hard disk. I usually change the names to something shorter. The
Braille Lite has trouble with long names. I then use the Command Prompt to
copy from the hard drive to the CF card.

One difference between the BLT and BN is that on the BLT, I have to change
the linefeeds that are in the books to carriage return/linefeed pairs, or I
get spaces instead of carriage returns. This is not necessary on the BN. I
do this by putting the books in a text editor and making a small change and
resaving them. This might be replacing two hyphens with spaces around them
with two hyphens with them, the way a braille dash should appear. It might
be taking everything out before Begin Centent. I like to delete as I go
along. It might be doing some search and replace with abbreviations.

When I was younger, I learned Grade III Braille. This is not an official
code but a system developed for notetaking. I don't remember all of it, but
I remember quite a few short-form words and other contractions in it.
