yes, you need a card reader if you are using them on a device that does not 
have a port for them. the MPOWER has a port for an SD card a Compact flash card 
and one for a card reader. You do need the card reader to attach to your desk 
top.

  I've put my books on SD cards a lot, and no it really doesn't matter what 
brand you use. All they are is a storage device. Now, you will need a card 
reader though? Then you will also need a device that you can put them in to use 
them.
