Thanks, I have been a member for almost two years. I just needed something new to accomplish and figure since I like to read this is something I could help with. Now what? -Welcome, Rose. I see Shelley gave you good advice. Validating probably is a good way to start. Go to the Step 1 (see folks -- I'm learning) Download page and find a book you think you might like to read. RTF files are the best because they retain page breaks and can be converted to the other forms by the bookshare people. After you've downloaded the file, you may have to unzip it. However, i don't have a K1000 so maybe it takes care of that for you. Then just read the book, making corrections as you go, and keeping the page breaks and page numbers. You can delete the headings. Pay special attention to the page with the copyright info. The nice thing about volunteering for bookshare as well as being a member (or perhaps you're just a volunteer and not a memeber) is that, in addition to earning credits toward your annual membership ()$2.00 or $2.50 -- I forget -- for scanning and 50 cents for validating) there is no time limit either for validating or for scanning. If you have a book you want to scan, (and there is a Wish List, or will be when it's fixed -- in the meantime you can go to booksharescans@xxxxxxx and see what people have requested) you can work on it at your leisure. Just post here the name of the book so someone else doesn't do it too. If you have questions or problems about scanning just ask here. everyone is very helpful. After you scan, run a spell check and make sure all the pages and page numbers are there. We all sometimes skip pages or scan the same page twice when we scan. If you download a book for validation, you can take as long as is necessary, but you have to go to the Step 2 Upload page to renew the book every six days, to be safe, or it will automatically go back to the download list *without* your changes -- in its original form. If that happens, just ask and we'll tell you what to do next. I hope I haven't overwhelmed you with too much information. Sometimes I "talk" too much. People here are very nice and helpful so feel free to ask whatever you need to. Cindy With both validating __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
