Thanks, Walt. Good info. I suppose I've been quite fortunate. -----Original Message----- From: bookport-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bookport-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Walt Smith Sent: Wednesday, August 10, 2005 3:11 PM To: bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bookport] Re: life of a cf card That's pretty unusual for a Sandisk and as another person mentioned, I'd definitely look into getting a replacement under their warranty. I'd contact ZipZoomFly, give them your order number, and explain that the card has failed. To respond to Rich Ring, the most common failure that I'm aware of in CF cards is a failure of the "controller" circuitry that's built into the card. What normally happens when this occurs is that the card will be fine for simple data storage, but if it contains any bootable code, the code won't boot. I've had one card fail in this way and I use cards very hard at work, copying bootable code to them as often as two or three times a day. As far as I can tell, it's almost impossible to assign a real reason for CF card failures; that is, they seem to hagve nothing to do with how frequently data is written to or erased from the card, etc. _____ From: bookport-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bookport-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Melissa Tucker Sent: Wednesday, August 10, 2005 3:40 PM To: bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bookport] life of a cf card My 2gb sandisk card is dead, and I want to know what is the usual life of a cf card, and what can I do to make my next one last longer? I've looked on froogle for the best prices for a new one, but I'm scared I'll get the wrong type of 2gb card, so I'm looking for some advice.
