O.K. I'll ask Lisa to make a ruling and to educate her staff. It doesn't make any sense to allow reviews instead of synopsis because they don't tell one anything of value. In the case of the James Frey book, one review I read--I don't remember if it was in the paper or the NY Times or something like PW, really panned it, but the review that was quoted, whether it was from the back of the book or not, raved about it. It was the rave that was included as the synopsis. If reviews instead of synopses are to be allowed, then both positive and negative reviews, if both exist, should be included and the writer identified so we know, for example, if the reviewer is an author of the same genre. For books in the collection, any reader can rated the book and write a review. I have written several, usually when I really like the book, and I know some others have, too. Jaya is the person with the Benetech email address: http://www.bookshare.org/web/UserInfo.html?userid=33666 There was another person with an India email address who also had a great many of his or her submissions with reviews instead of a synopsis as well. That user submitted 153 books, you can see them: http://www.bookshare.org/web/UserInfo.html?userid=31129 and about 20% of them use a quoted review instead of a synopsis so either or both the submitter and validator are using reviews instead of a synopsis. Even a book that Carrie submitted has quoted information in the synopsis: http://www.bookshare.org/web/SingleTitle.html?submittitleid=43261 So maybe Bookshare has revised their policy on using reviews. If you look at the long synopsis you'll find hundreds of them that use reviews.
