Hi, Kim, when I started out proofreading what really helped me out is that someone walked me through the process, that is literally talked me through it by telling me what she was doing and why via Skype. I was also sent a set of procedures to follow. I have a particular problem reading manuals as they send me off to sleep. I don't know if you have a Braille display, Kim, but if you do have one, why not make up a folder and put all the procedures you get into that folder so when you start to proofread another book you'll have them to refer to as a kind of mental checklist. Every time I start to proofreading a book I have that procedure checklist which I check off mentally. I guess this is called the pre-proofread because the procedures are checked off such as seeing what the submitter did. If the submitter has everything up to how Bookshare likes it, that means less work for you as a proofreader. If the submitter has stripped all the headers and footers in the file, obviously you needn't bother with them. Also, I really like to correspond with the submitter so he/she knows how the project is going and if I have any text questions I can't figure out, the submitter is bound to get an email from me about that. I don't know if you have Skype or not, but I'd be happy to help out as much as I can. My first proofread was pretty daunting but I found something which works for me. Regards and happy proofreading from a fellow deranged perfectionist, Kim Friedman. -----Original Message----- From: bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Kim Loftis Sent: Thursday, March 15, 2012 5:46 PM To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: font Question Hi Jackie, Oooh, that's a very good point which I hadn't thought about. As a fellow non-sighted reader, that wasn't something I'd readily considered until you mentioned it. Thanks very much.
