If you notice the increase in page numbers you definitely should save as kes
until you're ready to upload. Sometimes RTF files have strange qquirks.

I was able to delete the pages by doing it in smaller amounts but Kurzweil
never did tell me how many pages it deleted. Is a problem like this a very good
reason to convert to Kurzweil while validating and then go back to RTF? When I
saw that the number of pages was increasing erratically when using the status
key, is there anything I should have done?
