Hi, everyone! Thanks for your input. I sure did open a can of worms, now,
didn't I?! Oh, well, leave it to me to get things all stirred up! <LOL>
Tracy, thanks for your kind words and suggestions. That's exactly what I
used to do with headings and page numbers, but with all the discussion about
headers and footers over the last few months, I got a little confused.
<Smile> I took a long break from validating and scanning, but I am at least
working on pre-validating some books that are languishing on my laptop. I
also brought three books to the hotel with me, along with my handy little
Cannon scanner. It's slower than my Epson 1660, but my understanding is
that it's very accurate. I haven't used it in a long time, but I bought it
for the situations like this, when I might want/need to scan something while
on the road. I just didn't count on the fact that "on the road" might be
ten minutes from my house, for an extended period of time! <LOL> I actually
am going out of town tomorrow for a couple of days, so at least staying in a
hotel will seem more normal! <Smile>
Anyway, BookShare has certainly helped to keep my spirits up! I can be just
about anywhere as long as I have books to keep me company. Between
BookShare and the audio-described movies on Freedom Box, I'm gonna make it
through this little hurdle just fine! <Smile> Thanks again, everyone!

Jana, Sorry to hear you're an evacuee. But what dedication, to bring your Bookshare stuff with you!
You seem to be saying that you are protecting page numbers with stars. You
should not. The stripper needs the page numbers to be recognizable so it
can put them in the file for Daisy readers (us non-Daisy users are just out
in the cold.) As I understand it, the page number must be on the first, or
last, line of a page, with a blank line below it, or above it, if it's on
the bottom. Then, the stripper is supposed to recognize it and, yes, strip
it, putting it into some place for Daisy to see.
What I do with headers, as a validator, is cut out the text portion, and
leave the page number, then make sure the number is at the top, with a blank
line under it, or at the bottom, with a blank line before it. Clear as Mud?
What you did with chapter headings sounds fine. Tracy

I'm about to submit a book which I've been working on for a while. I haveleft the headings in the book for now, and I've protected the chapter headings and page numbers with asterisks. The chapter headings have asterisks on the very top line of the page, followed by a blank line. The page numbers, which are at the bottom of the page, are followed by a blank line and then about five asterisks.stripper from going too far? If so, should I go ahead and strip the
My question is actually twofold, I guess. Will this be enough to keep the
headers, replacing them with asterisks? I know we've about discussed this
one to death, but since I don't have all of the BookShare posts on my
laptop, and since I've had just a few things on my mind other than Bookshare
for the past week and a half, I thought I'd see if someone could refresh my
memory. Thanks!____________________________________________
