In Braille, at least, the two words with the double dash or em-dash are appropriately written as one long word. I've also seen it in print this way, but also with a space after the first word and before the second, so I'm not sure that one way is "right" and the other is "wrong." But since I read Braille, I prefer everything written together. The one issue I think we still have to correct is that for some reason, sometimes there is a triple dash inserted. I haven't run into this yet.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Handling the M Dash

In the past we were asked to replace the M dash with a double hyphen. As I understand it the Bookshare tools do that now so it is not necessary to eliminate them. However, I am wondering something. If there is no space before nor after the M dash, that is, if the two words that the M dash separates become one long word with the M dash in the middle of it with no spaces, what should we do? Do we insert the spaces or just leave it like that?
