[bksvol-discuss] Re: Handling the M Dash

I get so frustrated with some of these discussions!
I read in the manual that the converter takes care of converting dashes to m-dashes. Therefore, I have been leaving the single dash alone just being sure that it is not proceeded or followed by a space. Now I get the impression that I should be changing these single dashes to two dashes. Why doesn't the manual say that?

Then I read that some people put a footnote number in brackets (a prior thread), some preceed the foot note number by a star. I have been doing what the manual says, putting each footnote number in parentheses and putting a space between the prior word or punctuation and the opening parentheses.

I don't always agree with how the manual does things, and I sometimes find it hard to find things in the manual, but I do my best to adhere to it, but then get the impression what I do is not correct!

Hi Sister Dolores,

I'm confused, again by the use of the word dash. Sorry. What I am saying
is that the em dash, written in print as a long dash, should be represented by two hyphens. Sorry I don't completely understand your question, and hope
I've answered it satisfactorily.

Mary, Are you saying that the dash (as we know it in braille) should take
the place of the m-dash. I had been doing that but thought I was incorrect.
I'm a braille reader and this is what comes natural to me.
Thank you.

Sister Dolores
