I’m pretty limited to out and back the same night as I don’t have a camper. And
the pup tent is reserved for special torture sessions like AASP or AZMM!
And I probably won’t venture out of the backyard again until the new mount
arrives. IF it arrives. :-(
I thought everyone gave up on Stoneman Lake after the last outing earlier this
month? Until your last outing there, I didn’t know the DCT was right there by
Happy Jack. I always thought it was up by Flagstaff someplace.
I was just throwing out ideas for Jim to consider in case he didn’t want to
travel very far. But “dark” seems to be a higher criteria for him than travel
time.

Michael,
As Brian says, the Discovery Channel Telescope area has great sites (see
Fredereksen Meadow (sp?) directions in SAC website). That site is a 2+ hr
drive for most of us, maybe more for you. Actually I'm going there today for
3 days.
Another cool site closer to I-17 is the Stoneman Lake Rd site we have used;
it's at 6500 ft. I can email directions, but It's best to arrive mid-week
before campers get there.
Also, I'm sure the EVAC guys can tell if there's a suitable high site South
of Phoenix that's within reach of your location. Some people go all the way
to Portal.
Clear Skies,
Paul
