Just an FYI on the green laser pointer caper.
About two years ago I was introduced to someone who has taken out
(at least) two US patents on a device that would combine the
green lasers with something like a GOTO mount. The instrument
would be used to point out stars, planets, etc. (no mention of
airplanes) An added feature would be the ability to trace out
names in the sky - for example, "Orion" and then outline the
constellation via stick-figure lines - similar to laser light shows.
No word on production. He only took out a patent and was hoping
to license the idea to someone like Meade or Celestron.
