I think you are saying that the source data may have two names, a primary-name (nameadd1) and a joint-name (nameadd2). This could mean the "&" is in the primary-name content if there is a joint-name present for the record? If this is so, just add the joint-name merge field to the same line and all should be sweet! Otherwise if the merge document is preparing the joint-name entry automatically with a "&" and a carriage return, then I suspect there is a script or other equivalent running in the background which is possibly doing the entering of the joint-name under the primary-name. Normally mail merge style documents are quite "do as you are told" once they are set up and everything is pretty plain to see... The Name is usually the first field, and then you can have 1 or more address lines. This is used currently to create letters with the name/address block showing through the envelop window. If there is a joint name, the first line ends with "&" and the next field has the second name. Something like ... Mickey Mouse & Minney Mouse Fantasy Land Disney Land USA Now, if there is more than one name I want to print it on the same line. The data is from a system that is too old and entrenched so I don't think I can change the source formats. I want to say, with merge fields, something like ... If the previous field ends with "&", then print on same line but I can't work our how to compare the last character in a field. I have tried using the RIGHT function that works in VBA, but it does nothing in the mail merge - can I use this type of text processing function in a merge, or do I just have the syntax wrong, ... { IF { RIGHT( {mergefield "nameadd1" }, 1)} = "&" {mergefield "nameadd2" } "" } Has anyone used a macro button in a merge to run a macro and return a value - not sure if that is a possibility?
