Exactly, remember you have two issues here. 1. Managing/tracking documentation to ensure it is accurate etc etc. 2. Users using the documentation for their needs. Ultimately users want to be provided with the documentation they need to do their allotted tasks. If you are giving them what information they need, and managing that, then do they need to see draft/version/doc numbers? Some times no, some times yes. As a documentation manager, you need to know what is going where, where/when it is at, whether it is finished, who is doing what to it, so do you need to see draft/version/doc numbers? Most times yes. So finding the best compromise for yourself and your users is the aim. Sounds like you have found the right track.
