Years back, I was asked to publish the High Level Design for a project in a
format that the programmers and analysts would "cherish". Yes, I got that
right - cherish.

As the content would not change much from that point in time(!), we decided
on a printed and bound volume with a 'nice' cover.

About five years later, I was elsewhere in that organisation and knew that
some information I wanted was in the High Level Design. I walked into the
programmers area and looked around. Most of the shelves in each cubicle had
a copy of the bound volume. A young programmer offered to help me, and
allowed me to read his copy. He then began telling me how it was great to
have such a volume, and on and on he went. He obviously cherished his
copy. It was hard to keep up my end of the conversation and a straight
face, especially as a few older types were smiling knowingly.

So sometimes it does work.

For those that worry, the updates were on a webpage that had the same look,
but not feel, as the printed copy.
