Faith is believing in something unseen, it doesn't have to be rational.
Just tempered by common sense and being reasonable.
As a scientist, I have less reason to still "cling" to my Christian faith.
However, many times over I have been in situations where nothing can
explain my survival other than intervention of a divine nature. Besides,
even Dawkins acknowledges the Big Bang. But to convince me, answer this:
who lit the fuse?
Finally, why would any civilisation that developed technology to travel
billions of kilometres quickly - hand it to a species whose nature is to
destroy? Would you give a cranky bully boy a loaded shotgun in a school
yard?
Like Hell...
I'll bet they took one look at us and said: "They'll kill themselves. God
can sort'em out..."

No expert is able conclude how stars, planets, or human beings are made
either. Just because we don't understand something does not mean there is
a mystical, supernatural, religious or extraterrestrial explanation behind
it. For example, I don't understand how less than a billion people voted
to keep Paris Hilton in jail forever, but I don't attribute that
phenomenon to aliens, or the Flying Flying Spaghetti Monster.
As for crop circles there was a group of people in the UK who admitted
they hoaxed the circles, and made a documentary on how they did it. But it
still wasn't enough for some people. Despite all the evidence that it was
a hoax, people still wanted to believe.
In his book Dawkins mentions people who have said that even if there was
conclusive evidence that there was no god they would still believe.
And why would an alien civilization who mastered the art of traveling
billions and billions of light years to communicate with us do such bad
job of it? Obscure pictographs no one can understand seem a dumb way to
say hello.
They are definitely not speaking the queens English.
My sixpence worth.

Been following this witty thread with much amusement.
And Warren, on the subject of aliens, what do you (or anyone else) makes
of the phenomenon of crop circles. I thought yeah, yeah, had heard about
it but when I saw a documentary on it recently, was interested that no
expert is able to conclude how they are made. (I am not talking about the
hoax ones which are not of the same quality).
PS - Granat must be away.

Yeah Peter, I agree with all your comments there. I like the year of the
Flying Spaghetti Monster too.
And AD or BC or BCE? Dumb or what?
On every other planet of superior intelligence in the universe they must
be thinking "What are they thinking..." No wonder aliens have left us
alone...
Who would want us anyway? Other than a greedy colonial planet hunting for
resources. And lets face it, if they aren't quick about it, there won't be
anything left for them anyway, it will be all consumed for making weapons.
