Hi Chris
I agree with Kate - sounds like it is a corruption issue, or at
least a memory issue.
Before you do the HTML thing, you could try a Maggie - copy the
whole document, except the last paragraph mark into a new clean
document (preferably based on a clean template). It may or may
not be related to your Normal template - but it's always good to
reset this as Kate describes every now and again.
You could also, before you do this, remove all the footnotes, and
reapply them in the new doc.
