Dear Bruce (Ashley)

Ah, the Betamax, the thousand dollar clock.

Great machines, Had a few.
(Even an SLC7 with the 5 tape stacker /
tape tangler.)

Shame about them being made by Sony.
(The Sanyo ones weren't bad, with the
remote on a wire.)

The ultimate anti-theft device used to be a video store
Betamax symbol promotional transfer on your lounge
room window.

Maybe you could stick one atop a laptop.
(Tell people that it's a new slimline Beta hi-fi.)

That aside, you might be interested to learn that the
Japan Victor Corporation (JVC) Video Home System
(VHS) is pretty much dead now. Phillips has ceased
international production of VHS machines.

Grundig Australia is now refusing to service its
VCRs under warranty. It is far cheaper for them
to just replace the unit. A sad fact of a=20
wasteful world.

Tape based VCRs are now just time-shifting
boat anchors.

As for securing your laptop...

Araldite and the kitchen table are sounding
like a good combo.

Secure, yes. Portable, no.

Cheers,

Michael

We use the cables with combination lock connectors here and my record for=

opening one (where I don't know the combination) is 35 seconds.
Security? No such thing.

I suggest you buy an old Beta VCR, take out the guts and put hinges on th=
e
case. When not using your laptop, put it in the VCR.

Safe as houses :).

Cheers.

Bruce Ashley
