Machele,
With the needle down, does the presser foot come down.  If not can you pull it 
down while the needle is down?

presser foot.  

  I see that you are a tech, so I have another question you might be able to 
help me with.  My husband and I found a metal piece on the floor that we have 
no idea where it is from.  Can you tell if it goes to the machine, and if this 
is what is causing the presser foot problem?  Sorry, it didn't scan well.

    Was the needle still up?  Remember,  the presser foot won't move unless the 
needle is down.

      I went to do a hat for the first time in probably over a year.  Hate 
those things.  When I went to adjust the presser foot, the dial turned but the 
presser foot never moved.  Any ideas on what I need to fix.  Hate to call for a 
service call on such a little thing.
