This will put the presser foot cam in the right position so that the ratchet wheel can then move the presser foot up and down to the desired height. For the Non-XT Amaya's, the rule of thumb was to run the presser foot all the way up and come back down 1 or 2 clicks when doing caps. This would only apply "IF" you are using the raised needle plate which is "NOT" used on the newer XT models. If you are not using the raised needle plate while doing caps, you would then treat the presser foot the same as if you were sewing flats..... For the XT models, the rule of thumb is to run the presser foot all the way down and then go back up 1 or 2 clicks for flats or caps....
