Cheers for this, John. By the way, do you happen to have a URL for
downloading the Olympus   software that enables transfering from the
computer to the  DM-5? I don't remember getting it with my recorder at all,
so if you have that link, that would be great.

Hi everybody, version 1.30 of the DM5 firmware is out, and good news,
they've fixed the daisy. It will now start playing a file at the point
reached, instead of going back to the beginning of a chapter, and you can
also, in theory, put in bookmarks.
  As far as I'm aware you can put in a bookmark using the f1 button,
although I don't know how you delete bookmarks you don't want anymore.
